LHC changed my life, and for that, I will be eternally grateful.
When I joined LHC I was living at home with my father (an alcoholic) stuck in a rut and just not getting anywhere with my life. A drug addict for most of my adult life, I had finally gotten clean and into treatment, but what was I going to do with my life now? Luckily that’s where LHC came in. I was referred to them by my doctor at the Leeds Addiction Unit and was soon invited for an interview. Luckily I was given a property almost straight away sharing with another lad – my support worker had really done her best to match us up and we get on really well.
After moving in my life began to change almost immediately. I finally had a place I could proudly call my own, somewhere I have my own independence (a huge deal for me) whilst at the same time, still having the support I needed to make the transition from living at home.
For me LHC wasn’t just about putting a roof over my head. I started courses to improve my counselling and computer skills. My support worker was there every step of the way, visiting colleges with me, helping me to fill in forms and enabling me to access the funding necessary for my courses and any associated expenses. As a result, I am now attending college and will shortly be enrolling in a mentoring programme to help people with drug problems. I’ll soon be the person behind the desk rather than the one in front of it for a change!
LHC changed my life, and for that, I will be eternally grateful.
