Why Voulunteer with LHC? We offer a wide variety of volunteering opportunities, for you to choose between. When you volunteer with LHC you will benefit from a supportive environment with friendly staff who will be available to offer advice and guidance to you. You will gain experience and will be offered training as required. Your traveling, lunch and any other expenses will be paid if you volunteer over a certain number of hours. You will be able to meet new people and socialise with other volunteers. We will always be open to your suggestions and ideas. Become a volunteer and.... All we ask is that you are open minded and like to meet new people. You will need to be available to volunteer during normal office hours and to commit a minimum of 2-3 hours a week. Volunteering Opportunities We currently have volunteering opportunities in three of our schemes: Potterdale Potterdale is a day centre for people over 50 experiencing mental health problems and social isolation. Volunteers with this scheme get involved with groups, meals and social activities at the centre. In addition opportunities exist for befriending service users and accompanying individuals on shopping trips, to the cinema and to appointments. Sahara Sahara provides refuge accommodation and outreach services for black women and their children who are homeless as a result of domestic violence. Volunteers with this scheme befriend service users and accompany individuals to appointments or on trips. Opportunities also exist for assisting with activities for the children, especially during the school holidays. What Next? You will need to attend a brief interview, supply us with the names and addresses of two referees and if accepted will need to undergo a Criminal Records check which LHC will pay for.
